My Freshman Year
In this chapter, the author looks at life from the [[#|view]] of international [[#|students]]. She focuses on how the international students and the American students interact with each other and also how the foreigners view us. Some of the things that come up include our differences in the way we talk and look. The internationals also find school much easier here than what they are used to. One thing that the author concluded is that fact that most foreigners believe we are very ignorant to other cultures and countries.

The Mind At Work
This section starts out with Mr. Guthier and a group of students trying to fix a sink. Most of the students in this group are part of a probation program and have history with drug abuse and juvenile delinquency. For most students, this is seen as a good opportunity. I agree with this, seeing as how it is getting them prepared for the workforce and can almost be seen as on the job training. I think the author also agrees that the program has a positive impact, saying that it allows the kids to find balance within chaos and gives them chances to achieve something that they might not be able to in the classroom.
